
Kathmandu, With the start of the Nepalis’ biggest festival of Dashain, Tribhuvan International Airport reported that international flights are facing higher demand, while domestic flights remain normal for now.
Passenger movement from Kathmandu to various destinations is significant during the festival. According to airport spokesperson Rinji Sherpa, the number of passengers arriving in Nepal from abroad is rising. Some international airlines have added extra flights, and a few are operating chartered services.
“International traffic is increasing, while domestic remains normal. Domestic flights are likely to increase by Vijaya Dashami,” Sherpa said.
On Saturday, there were 106 international flights, including 54 arrivals and 52 departures, bringing in 8,029 passengers. Domestic flights numbered 222, with 6,875 passengers flying out of Kathmandu and 4,065 flying in.
On Sunday, 55 international flights brought 8,500 passengers to Nepal, while 6,800 departed. Domestic flights totaled 229, carrying 7,887 outbound and 5,505 inbound passengers.
Tribhuvan International Airport handles over 300 flights daily, including more than 250 domestic and around 100 international flights. The airport operates from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. Twenty-one airlines, including 12 helicopter companies, provide domestic services, while 30 international airlines, including three Nepali carriers, operate flights to and from Nepal.
