Dirty political games are on

By P.R. Pradhan

Despite the change that the Nepali people had expected, Nepali politics is still dominated by those cunning leaders Pushpakamal Dahal, K.P. Sharma Oli and Sher Bahadur Deuba. More seriously, from behind the scene, Indian intelligence is initiating a conspiracy for prolonged instability and economic deterioration of this Himalayan nation.

Deteriorating economy: Within the past six months of the current fiscal year, the government is unable to spend 14 per cent of the development expenditure as like in the previous fiscal years. However, the government expenditure towards the non-productive or say general sector is above 90 per cent. It means the government is spending all its funds on salary and allowances for the civil servicemen and those political representatives enjoying political posts.

The country’s foreign debt burden is continuously increasing and in the past five years, it has become double. Surely, the government needs foreign debts for operating the political system. It is a matter of serious concern when the country’s revenue even cannot meet the general sector expenditure and the nation needs foreign debts to pay salaries to the servicemen.

The country’s trade deficit is continuously widening, that is, inclining imports and declining exports.

All the economic indicators are seen as negative, yet, the political leaders are less bothered about the poor economic performance of the country.

Politics of conspiracy: Politics should be aimed at making the economy strong and self-reliant but the Nepali politics is based on grasping power even by pleasing foreign powers. Currently, Nepal is passing through the Indo-West design of transforming the country into a vulnerable and poverty-ridden nation. Our leaders are following foreign instructions and fighting against each other creating chaos in the country.

Foreign powers have understood that as long as those local leaders will be engaged in a conspiracy against each other and continue to fight, they will not get time for developing the nation. In fact, the leaders too are not keen for developing the nation, rather, they are focused on organizing a planned and daylight loot.

Within a month of the formation of the government, a rift has been witnessed between PM Dahal and UML chair K.P. Sharma Oli, major partners in the ruling alliance. Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal is a self-centred person and a big conspirer. Now, he has started to play the game of threatening Oli by showing Deuba and keeping Deuba under his grip in fulfilling his pity interests. So far, this game is formulated by foreign intelligence or say, Indo-West intelligence groups and our leaders are acting as per the foreigners’ design.

Foreign policy in doldrums: Along with the strong presence of India, of late, the American presence has also been intensified. Just this week, Victoria Nuland, the US Department Under Secretary for Political Affairs, concluded her two-day visit to Nepal. She ensured further monetary grant support and also focused on the implementation of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), a 500 million US dollar grant project. Along with the US grant, understandably, the American interests have been intensified here alarming our Northern neighbour China.

Victoria Nuland is known as a character who played for the regime change in Ukraine in 2014 pushing Ukraine into a war. Today the Ukrainian people have become a big sufferer, whereas, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is being projected as a hero by the West. The Americans are also searching for another Zelenskyy in Nepal.

Nepal is situated between two giant nations — India and China. By principle, the country has maintained a non-aligned foreign policy and equidistance relations with both neighbours. In practice, the Nepali leaders are practicing “special” relations with India and friendly relations with China. In fact, Nepal should give special priority to its relations with the two neighbouring countries, rather than looking towards a country behind the globe. Nepali leaders should take the lesson from Ukraine that Americans provoked Zelenskyy but didn’t come to fight in favour of the Ukrainian people against Russia. Our leaders should learn the lesson that neighbours are more important than others.
