Kathmandu, Sept 2: CPN (Maoist Centre) chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” has said that the government should take diplomatic initiatives to resolve the border dispute. He made the remarks on Monday evening while addressing the virtual extended meeting of the party’s Asia Regional Committee.
Recalling his tenure as prime minister, Prachanda said that during his visit to India he had raised the issue of Lipulekh and Kalapani with the Indian prime minister, which led to a public announcement on the matter. “The Maoist Centre is clear that the border problem must be resolved through diplomatic initiatives,” he said.
On nationality and the border issue, he explained that during his most recent term as prime minister, he had raised the Kalapani and Lipulekh issue in a serious manner during his official visit to India.
“Comrades should also know this. On nationality, on Nepal’s borders, and on Lipulekh, when I last visited India as prime minister, I raised the Kalapani and Lipulekh matter seriously. For the first time in history, it was under my leadership that the Indian Prime Minister Modi publicly announced that the Nepal–India border dispute would be resolved through dialogue. We had advanced the issue with hard work and commitment. The Maoist Centre is clear that the present government must also take diplomatic initiatives to resolve the border problem,” he said.
Addressing the meeting, Prachanda also said that special efforts have been launched to bring leaders and activists working abroad into the party’s mainstream.
