Joint commercial council may pave the way for Nepal-Qatar economic partnership

Kathmandu, April 25: A Nepal-Qatar Joint Commercial Council will be established, incorporating the private sectors of Nepal and Qatar. During the two-day visit of the Qatari king to Nepal, an agreement was signed between the President of the Federation of Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chandra Prasad Dhakal and the President of the Qatar Chamber, Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani, to establish the Nepal-Qatar Joint Commercial Council.

Federation President Dhakal and Qatar Chamber President Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani signed the agreement in the presence of Qatar’s King Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal. It is believed that the council will become a milestone in work in the areas of trade expansion, investment promotion, technology transfer, and tourism promotion between the two countries.

The Federation said that the council has become a permanent mechanism for dialogue with the Gulf country, Qatar, which is experiencing rapid economic growth. The purpose of the Joint Commercial Council is to increase cooperation and understanding between the private sector of Qatar and Nepal. It is believed that the council will play an effective role in attracting investment and expanding trade in Qatar, which is known as the main destination for foreign employment of Nepalis
