The same old formula

BABBLES

By Babbler

Maoist supremo and Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal is practising the same old formula. He became the unopposed party chair for four decades by creating two groups in the party. Sometimes taking the side of one group, he warned another group and sometimes taking another group threatened the other group.

Today, he is applying the formula more broadly. He betrayed the Nepali Congress and joined hands with the UML for becoming the PM for two and a half years. Now, to prolong his tenure as the PM, he is planning to betray the UML by joining hands with the Nepali Congress.

NC and UML paying the price

If the Maoist Center had contested the poll alone, it would be difficult for us to find the Maoists in the political arena. In the previous general elections, UML had rescued the Maoists and in the recent elections, the Nepali Congress came to rescue them. Now, the Maoists have become the key player in politics by keeping the NC and UML at a distance. If NC and UML join hands, all small parties, including the Maoist will be sidelined but Maoist supremo Pushpakamal Dahal seems capable to enjoy the PM’s post by playing his well-known strategy.

With the foolish strategy performed by the Nepali Congress and UML, they are paying the price.

New Nepali identity

National holiday almost daily has become the Nepali identity. Our Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal, the other day, said that he is concerned about the increased number of holidays. He expressed worry about the economic scenario of the country which has been affected by the increased number of holidays.

In fact, we saw the real face of PM Dahal when he abruptly announced a holiday recalling the “people’s war” day on 1 Falgun when the bloody “people’s war” was started. Above 17 thousand innocent people were killed in the so-called people’s war. The general public expressed utter dissatisfaction with the announcement of a national holiday on that day.

There are many other holidays announced by the government on the occasion of the festivals of different communities. Some communities have expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s attitude for not announcing holidays on their festival. If the government will start to respond to them, the country may enjoy holidays more than 365 days a year.

Anyway, we are practising “loktantra,” a system said to be the offensive one. Therefore, let’s enjoy the national holiday almost every day!

QUOTES OF THE DAY

  • In contemporary Nepali politics, I have not met another politician like Kul Bahadur Gurung. He is a qualified person for the presidency. When it was certain that he would lose the election, the Nepali Congress made him the presidential candidate, but now the Nepali Congress does not even discuss about him. Very sad!

Lokesh Dhakal

  • I don’t see any point to disagree with the king’s Democracy Day message on Falgun 7.

Removing the institution of monarchy was not in the interest of the nation.

But when the status of the nation was weak, and the state was unable to make its own decisions, the institution of monarchy was removed.

  • After 2006, the Ministry of Education has been handed over to the Maoists not without any reason. The whole new generation has been prepared that hates its own history, ancestors and religious culture; does not know how to read and write Devanagari; does not even know how to speak pure Nepali. In this regard, the Maoist revolution must be considered successful.

  • Nepali politics is densely concentrated on the election of the new president of the country. These high offices with coercive potential have become the epicenter of national security and stability. These are not just legitimate positions. PM Pushpakamal Dahal’s foresight is critical.

  • This morning also the Nepali Congress spokesperson stated, “Alliance is necessary to protect the constitution”.

If it is the situation that the constitution needs to be protected, will the constitution protect the people, people’s rights and the whole country?

  • The root of political instability in Nepal is the current constitution and current leaders, there is no doubt about it!

  • Nepal also needs media like India’s “The Wire”. It continuously researched the Gujarat riots claimed by the Indian government and proved that it was the Gujarat genocide. Thus, the people’s war claimed by Prachanda was not only a money war, it was a genocide. Are there any media in Nepal to prove it? Is there any meaning to talk about media freedom in Nepal?

Hasta Gurung

  • King Mahendra was called a dictator because Nepal could not be merged into India; Kings Birendra and Gyanendra were said to be autocratic because they could not be slaves of foreigners. These are the bitter truth!
