Reducing the pollution level in the Kathmandu Valley

BABBLES

By Babbler

These days, we see the red sun during the day time. We see thick haze whole the day. Health experts have alarmed about the health hazard in the Kathmandu Valley and other major cities due to the jungle fire.

How to reduce the air pollution, noted invention campaigner Mahabir Pun has prescribed the following points to transform the Valley into a green city and to reduce the pollution level:

At least one tree should be compulsorily planted at every rooftop of the houses; in large buildings, as per the size, plantation of several trees is obvious; as there are one million buildings in the Valley, plantation of at least one million trees is possible.

Benefits: One large plant will consume 23 kgs of carbon dioxide per year. One million trees grown at the rooftop will consume five million kgs of carbon dioxide per year, which will contribute to reducing air pollution at a significant level, Pun has suggested.

If there are many benefits of tree plantation, why should we delay for plantation of trees? Let the local governments think about it.

Commending K.P.Oli

This Babbler never says every action of Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli is good but he wishes to commend on one thing he is insisting that those leaders who have already enjoyed the post of the prime minister and party chief should get retired allowing the next generation leaders to succeed them.

Oli is in the process of sidelining such leaders from politics. Suspending Madhav Nepal from the party could be one effort to end his politics. Already, Oli has sidelined Pushpakamal Dahal Prachanda as the latter has now become the chairman of the third-largest party since the rebirth of the Maoist Center. Bamdev Gautam is also in the process of getting retirement. Oli himself will get retirement if his health will not allow him for remaining in active politics.

Now, the second generation leaders should prepare for succeeding the old leaders instead of carrying their bag and running behind those old leaders.

Madhav Nepal, a power greedy leader, is making all efforts to save his political career. There left two options for him. Either to remain in the party and run parallel organisation until the national convention of the party or to join the Maoist Center. Otherwise, there is no space for him in the UML since Oli has suspended him for six months.

By the Way!

The Federation of the Nepalese Journalists observed its 66th establishment day 29 March. Very soon, the journalists are going to vote for their leaders in the Federation. Always, we talk about professionalism denying journalists’ association with particular political parties. Unfortunately, it has become just a slogan as we saw the candidates had to get an election ticket from their concerned political parties. In other words, the Federation has become the venue of the political workers rather than the professional journalists.

Interestingly, different journalists have challenged one presidential candidate to write a sentence in Nepali correctly!

In conclusion, as the country has been destroyed on all fronts, journalism is not an exception!

Quotes of the Week

BP Koirala’s message to Indira Gandhi when she asked him, in return for support, total subservience to her: “Madam, if I have to be a servant, I would rather be a servant of my own king than yours” He then returned from self-exile with his National Reconciliation” –

Him Nepali

The present political system has weakened the sovereignty of the country, weakened national unity and nationalism, destroyed ethnic and regional harmony, increasing anarchy and crime, promoted indiscipline and disorder, created hatred, mistrust and suspicion instead of mutual love and respect among the people, destroying the economy.

If the system has achieved anything, Nepalis could see the names of Prachanda and Baburam as prime ministers, that’s all.

Dev Prakash Tripathi, Senior Journalist

There is the only talk of bullets and agitators being fired by the Myanmar army.

Why not we discuss that the demonstrators were mobilized through the Westerners’ money?

Tara Aryal Thapa

When the country faces a difficult time, sit on the lap of China; if the government faces trouble, then sit on the lap of India. This is Nepali politics!
