Govt seeks recommendations from public to curb corruption

Kathmandu, April 3: The government has invited public suggestions for immediate reforms to tackle corruption and improve governance, with a focus on strengthening accountability across state institutions.

Chief Secretary Suman Aryal said office heads must take primary responsibility for preventing financial irregularities and ensuring ethical conduct. He stressed that officials should treat service seekers with respect, maintain neutrality, and follow legal standards on transparency and discipline.

In a statement on Thursday, Aryal said the new government has made curbing corruption a top priority across policy, institutional, and procedural levels. Efforts are underway to build a more professional and capable bureaucracy that can regain public trust.

The government also plans to improve service delivery, with attention to women, children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups.

Authorities will increase monitoring of public offices, including spot checks, to detect bribery and misconduct. Any suspected corruption must be documented and reported promptly.

Aryal urged all stakeholders to act against misuse of public authority in service delivery, development projects, revenue collection, and procurement, aiming to ensure governance that people can actually feel in their daily lives.
