PM Oli should raise Lipulekh, Kalapani issue during India visit: Sharma

Kathmandu, Aug 21: Nepali Congress General Secretary Bishwo Prakash Sharma has advised that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli should raise the issues of Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura, and Kalapani during his upcoming visit. Referring to the recent debate over Lipulekh, Sharma said the government needs to adopt a clear and united stance on this matter.

Sharma suggested that the government call an all-party and all-side meeting to discuss the developments and build a common commitment. He stressed that such a meeting would help present a unified national position both within the country and abroad. He also pointed out that the constitutionally endorsed map passed unanimously by parliament in June 2020 should be highlighted once again to strengthen Nepal’s position.

He further said that Nepal should remind both India and China of the diplomatic note sent after their May 2015 agreement on Lipulekh, and send a fresh diplomatic note regarding the latest developments. Sharma underlined the need to take both neighbors into confidence based on historical facts, and insisted that the Prime Minister should put the issue on the agenda of his visit.

Sharma also proposed that Nepal push for the long-pending Eminent Persons Group (EPG) report, prepared seven years ago, to be received by the prime ministers of both countries. He argued that the report could serve as a basis to resolve broader border and bilateral issues between Nepal and India.
