Kathmandu, June 2: The daily life of the residents of Bhotkhola has become easier after the opening of the Kimathangka border in the northern area of Sankhuwasabha, which is connected to China. After the trade point opened, the residents of Bhotkhola’s Kimathangka, Chamthang, Chepuwa, Hatia and others have benefited.
Herbs and traditional handicrafts produced in the Himalayan region have started to be exported to the Chinese market.
On May 12, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Vice President of China’s Tibet Autonomous Region Silam Nima announced the reopening of 14 border crossings along the Nepal-China border, including Kimathang, during a ceremony in Chhentang, China.
After the opening of the border point, 43 traders of Bhotkhola have started sending herbs and locally produced handicrafts to the Chinese market. Bhotkhola Rural Municipality chairman Wangcheder Bhote informed that the citizens of Bhotkhola reached across the Kimathangka border and bought daily consumables goods from the Chinese market based on their identity cards.
After the opening of the closed border, employment opportunities have also opened up. The road network has not yet reached Kimathangka crossing. Headquarters Khandbari Kimathangka Road is under construction.
