Kathmandu, May 3: Today, May 3, is the International Press Day, and Nepal is also observing the Day. The constitution has guaranteed total press freedom, yet, the Nepali media is facing different kinds of obstacles.
Currently, the Supreme Court is interrogating media persons even asking them to delete the reports placed by them on the Website.
Although practising loktantra, the Nepali media is facing a financial crisis except for those who are enjoying foreign funding.
Unhealthy competition and weak revenue sources have seriously affected media freedom in the country.
Not to forget, big media houses are alleged to have been involved in big bargaining misusing the media influence. Moreover, the situation of those working journalists working with such big media houses is very pathetic. For months, such working journalists have not been able to get their salaries. This is the reality of media freedom in the country.
