Kathmandu, 15 May: Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal may visit Delhi in the first week of May.
Indian ambassador Naveen Srivastava has extended a formal invitation to PM Dahal at a meeting in Baluatar on Monday, reports Annapurna Post vernacular daily.
Nepal’s Foreign Ministry has also started preparation for the visit.
PM Dahal had expected initiation for Delhi visit earlier to the Boao Summit in China. He had planned to visit China after visiting India. When the Indian side delayed extending the invitation, PM Dahal cancelled his visit to China in the last hours.
PM Dahal, following the tradition of visiting Delhi by Nepali prime ministers after assuming office in Nepal, decided to put the first leg in Delhi after he became the PM. Such a tradition has been established since the introduction of multiparty democracy in 1990.
Such a practice started by Nepal government heads is an effort for exhibiting extraordinary relations with India by undermining the foreign policy of establishing equidistance relations with immediate neighbours.
