Devaluation of Nepali rupees

BABBLES

By Babbler

Gold is considered an exchangeable currency accepted globally. For the last three years, the gold price has skyrocketed in the Nepali market. It has already crossed one hundred thousand rupees and is very close to one hundred ten thousand rupees per tola. This makes clear at what ratio, our currency has been devalued in the global market.

None of the countries has become economically strong without protecting national investors and national industries. Nepal, in the name of an open market economy and economic liberalization, has discouraged local investors and local production by encouraging import trade, from which, Nepal has turned into a consumer country solely dependent on foreign products, which is unfortunate.

Politics is a dirty game

Nepali leaders have already lost the politics of morale and ethics. Within a month of the formation of a new coalition and new government, conspiracy politics started. Everybody knows, at the cost of giving the presidential post to the UML, the latter became ready to give the prime minister’s post to Pushpakamal Dahal. Now, Dahal is trying to betray UML and trying to support an NC candidate for the post.

Such a politics of betrayal may benefit Dahal for the time being but in the long run, his party Maoist Center is to suffer. Developing a new alliance with the NC will not benefit both NC or MC.

Isn’t it news?

Former Supreme Court chief justice Sushila Karki has purchased a house at 250 million rupees. We know her family background and financial capacity. She has personally written about the financial position of her family in her memoir. Personally, Karki is an anti-corruption activist and lauding against rampant corruption in the country. Can a retired chief justice purchase a property worth such a big amount, it is a burning question! Sure, it is an example of corruption in the court.

QUOTES OF THE WEEK

  • A person who is a former prime minister, says, the country is doomed. Another person who was the finance minister says, the economy has collapsed. A person who was the finance secretary, says, the country has not remained a place to stay.

That’s true but who made the country in such a worst position? Ordinary citizens or those who had enjoyed power?

It is these so-called top leaders and their power-greedy workers who are the root cause of ruining this country

  • The Supreme Court could give the verdict on Ravi Lamichhane’s citizenship dispute within a month but why the court is unable to finalize the case against Madhav Kumar Nepal and Baburam Bhattarai in the Lalita Niwas scam even after years?

Prem Gharti Magar

  • If we conduct a survey of the statistics in detail about those holding foreign citizenship, about 10% (30 lakh) of Nepalis have both Indian citizenship (Ration Card) and Nepali citizenship. I can provide dozens of proofs. Those citizens are considered to be Indian in India and Nepali when they come to Nepal.

  • Inconsistencies, contradictions, and disparagement about the glorious history and great ancestors are the main factors that make the country miserable. The present constitution of the country is the root cause of these anomalies. Therefore, it has become obvious to end these anomalies by restoring the 1990 constitution.

  • The solution to most of the problems of the state/society is ‘operation’ (structural changes). In this operation, the state/society cannot be anaesthetized [like the patient in a medical case]. So, the necessary ‘operations’ can be painful and unpopular for the time being.

No one is prepared to endure such unpopularity.

  • For 50 years, it was read that Nepal will become rich by producing light goods like wristwatches because it is a mountainous country like Switzerland. Also read Nepal will become a rich country by investing in agriculture, electricity and tourism. The fact is that even today, the country is economically ruined.

What the National Planning Commission, the government and political leaders are doing, nobody knows.

  • The economic situation of the country is getting worse day by day. The unemployment problem is on the rise. Youths going abroad for a better job are facing a terrible situation. The businessmen are suffering. The debt burden is increasing for feeding 762 governments. Yet, the government is not worried.
