Rats, cats, and MCC

BABBLES

By Babbler

MCC has become a football on the play between rats and cats. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba exposed the double standard of Maoist Center chair Pushpakamal Dahal Prachanda by making public the letter written to the MCC headquarters. Indeed, Deuba himself has been exposed for writing a secret letter jointly to MCC without informing the nation.

Now, the MCC football has reached into the Parliament. Speaker Agni Sapkota has once again postponed the Parliament meeting to avoid MCC, an American grant project. Earlier too, the Parliament meeting was postponed with the same purpose. Sapkota, misusing the parliamentarian norms, is practicing an undemocratic path. After all, they have no belief in the rule of law!

White elephants

The provincial governments have become white elephants for the country. The increased number of ministers in all seven provinces has given the impression that provinces are the factories producing ministers. The chief ministers of the five-party-alliance are forced to break the existing ministries and assign new ministers representing all the five parties just to save their posts. There are 14 ministers in the No 1 Province which has not even find a name of the province. In the Madhesh Province, there are 14 ministers. Earlier, there were just seven ministers. The number of ministries has increased but there is no business for the ministers except from a vehicle to ride and security escort by exploiting the government treasure.

Earlier, in the Bagmati Province also, the number of ministers was increased by splitting different ministries.

Qualification to become a minister

Kchiring Damdol Lama (Karchen) has become a minister under the recommendation of Maoist Center’s chairman Pushpakamal Dahal in the Karnali Province.

Lama is not a member of the Province Council. More than that, Lama is the person who has already faced a jail term on the charge of stealing valuable historical sculptures.

Thus far, Lama has been qualified to become a minister representing the Maoist Center!

No electronic voting

Many countries including India have already gone for electronic voting, which will reduce the election cost as well as vote counting time. Still, in Nepal, voting is being conducted manually, which will consume time and also the cost for printing ballot paper, ink, ink pad, etc.

So far, the Election Commission is said to be trying to conduct electronic voting in three districts – Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur – in the upcoming local level election.

Can’t Nepal go for electronic voting? Earlier, for sampling, electronic voting was conducted in one electoral constituency in Kathmandu. The voting was successful. Then why the government and the Election Commission are hesitant in introducing electronic voting in all over the country? It is said that the Election Commission is not interested in electronic voting. It is also said that there is less chance of manipulation of the election fund if conducted electronic voting. Therefore, the Commission has insisted on a manual voting system!
