In general, tax is the amount paid by the public to the government against the government services they receive. A good government utilizes the taxpayers’ money in many welfare projects established to serve the people. Health, education, employment are the priority sectors of the government and most people receive these services at free of cost.
In Nepal also, we have the government-run hospitals, schools and colleges but they are virtually not functional. Yes, before the multiparty era, they were functioning well, along with the introduction of the multiparty system, these institutions have become a victim of partisan politics.
Talking about the present Covid-19 hit situation in the country, around millions of people have lost their job, around five million people involved in the public transportation sector, are in crisis, entrepreneurs in the tourism sector are facing a very bad situation. All the sectors have very badly affected. Moreover, those people who were dependent on labour works and managing their two-time-meals from daily wage labour works are the main sufferer. In other countries, the government, identifying pandemic and lockdown affected people, has provided financial relief. Even in India, the government has provided food for three months to the people. When we talk about our government, it is busy in construction of luxury buildings and other recreation facilities for the President, Prime Ministers and ministers; purchasing expensive helicopters and expensive vehicles.
The government is not even able to conduct a PCR test of the people at mass.
If the leaders and officials in the government think about just enjoying the taxpayers’ money, why should the people pay tax, it is a burning question!
Shailung Enterprises cannot be blacklisted
The Agriculture Ministry, the other day, called a press conference and announced cancellation of the contract of two fertilizer supplying companies as they failed to meet the deadline to supply fertilizer. Automatically, such companies will have to be blacklisted. However, the next day, the Agriculture Materials Company clarified that the fertilizer supplying companies cannot be blacklisted as they are still to supply fertilizer under the other contract agreement. Now, the Shailung Enterprises, owned by Pushpakamal Dahal’s house owner has blamed the government for the delay on fertilizer supply.
Let’s assume, how powerful are the businessmen, commission agents and brokers under the rule of a communist government!
