Kathmandu, April 4. Arjun Narsingh KC has alleged that attempts are being made to target Gagan Kumar Thapa by using him, rejecting claims that his political standing is tied to family relations.
Speaking in Kathmandu, the Nepali Congress leader and proportional representation lawmaker said criticism portraying him merely as Thapa’s father-in-law is part of a “preplanned conspiracy.” He asserted that such remarks do not affect him and are intended to weaken both his identity and the party leadership.
KC said he had established his own political identity long before current party dynamics, recalling that he began his political struggle during the crackdown following the 1960 royal coup in Nepal led by King Mahendra.
He claimed that his contributions to party building and democratic movements are well-documented, even if some choose to ignore them.
He accused certain elements within the Nepali Congress of trying to reduce his identity to a familial label and using that narrative to indirectly attack Thapa. KC said linking his name with Thapa for criticism is deliberate and politically motivated.
Citing examples of past leaders such as Girija Prasad Koirala, Shailaja Acharya, and Sushil Koirala, he argued that many had earned their roles through individual contributions, not family ties.
KC also said he supports calls for a special party convention as part of efforts toward reform and generational shift, adding that those opposed to change are attempting to use him to weaken the party president.
