The popular saying of former US president John F. Kennedy that ‘One person can make a difference, and everyone should try’ has been applied by Mayor Harka Raj Sampang of Dharan Sub Metropolitan City.
Rai through his relentless work has finally succeeded to bring water to Dharan city from the Kokakha River located 42 KM away from the city and he managed to complete the tasks through volunteer labour donations of the city dwellers.
The way Rai mobilised the locals for a cause is highly encouraging. People from across the country have hailed the way Harka worked. The photographs of water falling from the pipe and the tears of happiness from the eyes of Harka have become viral.
With the success of labour contribution campaign put forward by Mayor Sampang, the Dharan people were able to bring the water on the 98th day of the campaign from the river located 42 km away from the city. They discharged the water in Pakuwa Khola after bringing it from Kokaha River.
The participants of the campaign had laid a 42-km-long pipeline for the transfer of the water. During the process, they coordinated with the neighboring municipality, Barahakshetra. Some of the parts of the pipe were placed in this municipality.
Water supply for the human settlements of Dharan was cut through the difficult hilly area from Kokaha River to Pakuwa Khola.
Mayor Sampang, who had been continuously working in the field till the last phase of the campaign, expressed his gratitude towards all the participants. More than Rs. 40 million, pipes, food and other supplies were received in aid for the campaign from people at home and abroad. As part of the campaign, thousands of people contributed labour every Saturday.
