Kathmandu, March 27: Following the arrest of party अध्यक्ष KP Sharma Oli, UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has demanded his immediate release.
Writing a status on Facebook, Pokharel said the arrest was driven by prejudice and revenge, warning that “the cost of bias and retaliation will be very high.” He added, “Be responsible, release him immediately.”
Acting on the recommendation of the investigation commission led by Gauri Bahadur Karki, formed to probe the Gen Z movement of September 9, the government arrested then-Prime Minister Oli and Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak early Saturday morning at their residence in Bhaktapur. Lekhak is a leader of the Nepali Congress.
The Congress has not issued any response so far. However, UML leaders have called the arrests an act of political vendetta and have warned of protests. A meeting of the UML secretariat has also been called.
