Kathmandu, Sept 26: Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said her administration will not amend the constitution or change the governance system as demanded by the Gen-Z movement.
In an address to the nation on Thursday, she reminded citizens that her government’s role is limited to holding elections. Calls for a directly elected prime minister or the removal of provinces are outside the interim administration’s scope, she said.
Karki urged young activists and reform supporters to push for structural changes through the ballot box and the constitutional process. She assured that the government is prioritizing good governance, anti-corruption drives, and service delivery.
She also pledged to prosecute those involved in the shooting deaths during the September 8-9 protests and confirmed that corruption cases, including one tied to cash seized from a minister’s home, are under investigation.
To curb wasteful spending, Karki said federal projects with little value have been scrapped, festival food supplies are being secured, and resources are being redirected to urgent needs.
