Kathmandu, Sept 11: Out of the 28 Bhatbhateni Supermarket stores, all except seven have been damaged. The destruction occurred during Tuesday’s Gen Z protests in Kathmandu and other parts of the country.
Bhatbhateni had been providing jobs to thousands of youths, from part-time to full-time employment.
“The immediate challenge now is to manage the employees of the stores that were completely burned down and can no longer resume operations,” said Chairman Min Bahadur Gurung.
Of the 28 stores, 12 were completely set on fire. According to Bhatbhateni COO Panu Paudel, the Naxal, Maharajgunj, Boudha, Koteshwor, Baluwaatar warehouse, Pokhara, Chitwan, Hetauda, Birtamod, Damak, Biratnagar, and Dharan outlets were looted, torched, and fully destroyed.
Similarly, outlets in Kalanki, Thimi, Balaju, Janakpur, Butwal, Birgunj, Dhangadhi, Itahari, and Bhairahawa were vandalized and most of their goods looted.
The remaining seven outlets in Tokha, Satdobato, Anamnagar, Sanagaun, Tripureshwor, Patan, and Nepalgunj were left untouched.
Bhatbhateni has stated that it will take at least two to three weeks to fully assess the extent of the damage.
