Political parties agree to form cooperatives’ fraud investigation committee

Kathmandu, May 19: The ruling coalition and the main opposition Nepali Congress have agreed to form a parliamentary committee to investigate the cooperatives’ fraud. However, the parties have yet to decide on what will be the mandate of the committee.

NC leader Ramesh Lekhak said that a meeting between the leaders of the ruling coalition and the Nepali Congress held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Saturday agreed to the formation of a parliamentary committee.

“There is a common opinion on forming a parliamentary inquiry committee and work will be started from Sunday, May 19, on what will be the mandate of the committee,” Lekhak said.

A panel comprising representatives of the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and Rastriya Swatantra Party has been formed to draft the mandate of the committee. Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Padam Giri will be the coordinator.

It is believed that the House meeting may run smoothly from today after the ruling alliance and the main opposition party reached an understanding.
