Kathmandu, 25 March: As the political leaders are keen to fulfill their vested interests in the court, the supreme court is unable to get a chief justice for more than one year. Since the suspension of chief justice Chholendra Shumsher Rana, the Supreme Court is headed by acting chief justices.
Although Parliament was unable to approve impeachment against Rana, he is yet to get a clean chit due to the vested interests of the supreme leaders of the political parties. This is an example of the direct intervention of the political leaders on the court.
Presently, the government is unable to appoint the chief justice as it is trying to amend the law related to the Constitutional Council with the plan of assigning their confidant as chief justice.
As the bill has been registered in Parliament, there is no possibility of appointment of the chief justice shortly.
