We read in the scriptures that theft, cheating, exploitation, giving trouble, and agonies are the most sinful work, like kidnapping and killing. Religious scriptures say these misdeeds will take criminals, corruptors, wrongdoers, and exploiters to hell. Also, any country’s land law prohibits these types of activities. Anyone who participates in such activities is supposed to get severe punishment. Still, people indulge in these activities, not caring about the scriptures and the country’s laws.
From time to time, we read the news published in Nepal’s newspapers that people are arrested and punished for different kinds of cheating – charging illegally high prices, mixing unwanted and uneatable things in foodstuffs, selling date expired none eatable foods – rice, cereals, cooking oil, ghee, and butter, biscuits, canned foods, powder milk, etc. Similarly, we often hear that people are arrested for corruption using fake signatures and documents. But we hardly see the wealthy millionaires and billionaires who own big industries, factories, and businesses being arrested and punished for cheating, exploitation, and corruption. That may be because they have the power of money and can buy anyone – prime minister, ministers, secretaries, bureaucrats, lawyers, justices and can make the atmosphere to their favor. Even if they are arrested, ultimately, they escape from the crimes.
I wrote the article “Public Companies’ Shares and the Possibility of Cheating and Losing Money,” which was published in People’s Review on December 7, 2022. The article was about how the Jyoti Spinning Mills, owned by reputed billionaire Jyoti Group and Gorakhkali Rubber Udyog established by Chinese Cooperation, disappeared, cheating me and many others. At that time, I did not know that the Jyoti Spinning Mills was turned into Jaya Spinning Mill, owned by the same group – Jyoti Group. After publishing my article as mentioned above, I had an opportunity to read the article titled “Licensed Larceny” in Nepal’s Context,” published in’ People’s Review” on March 1, 2017, written by Ratna Sansar Shrestha, the well-known nationalist writer. The author so vividly wrote about how that spinning mill turned to the name of another spinning mill at the owner’s advantage and the shareholders’ expense. The article did not mention the new name of the spinning mill. However, it is clear that the new name is Jaya Spinning Mill, owned by the same group. Here is a photo of the article’s excerpts.
I am so happy to read this article which exposed so clearly how my hard-earned money and thousands of people’s hard-owned money were grabbed by Jyoti Spinning Mill. At the same time, I am so sad to know that our government and other national and concerned international agencies did not do anything to save the public invested money. However, someone so thoughtful pointed out the conspiracy in time. Though so late, I want to thank the article writer Ratna Sansar Shrestha for his thoughtful, beautiful writing based on truth and facts.
It seems the laws to punish cheating and corruption are only for the poor, weak, and helpless, not for the rich. They can do anything in our country, like Ichha Raj Tamang, the UML ex-parliamentarian who grabbed about 8 billion rupees with many conspiracies and irregularities by opening Civil Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations and many other organizations. According to the news report, he said he was not responsible for paying the depositor’s money. I cannot even imagine how Ichha Raj could do such a crime with whom I had high regard and heartful appreciation. That was a big shock to me; hard to believe, but I am suffering for the cause. The victims of that organization are attending court after court and suffering unbearable pain without peace in their minds. No one has come to see tears in their eyes and do something to give justice to them without delay. It is a shame to say that we have a democracy with various people’s rights and an elected government. Everywhere, we see licensed robberies in this country.
