
Kathmandu, 30 October: Chief of Army Staff Gen Prabhuram Sharma and Swiss Ambassador Elizabeth von Kepler have held a courtesy meeting at the Nepal Army Headquarters on Friday.
According to the Nepal Army’s Public Relations and Information Directorate, the two discussed issues of mutual interest and reciprocity during the meeting. The Nepal Army said in a statement that it was confident that such talks would further help in deepening the bilateral relations between the two countries.
Meanwhile, the Swiss ambassador has called on the Minister of Education Devendra Poudel on 28 October.
During the meeting held at the Ministry on Thursday morning, the issue of investing in technology and business projects was also discussed.
During the meeting, Minister Poudel recalled that the Swiss government has been providing technical and economic assistance for the development and expansion of technical education in Nepal for a long time and requested for additional projects.
Minister Poudel said that additional assistance would be received from the Swiss government in the course of building a prosperous Nepal by increasing production and productivity by preparing skilled manpower through technical and vocational education and training.
“We are working with partners to develop a joint investment framework (SWAP model) to mobilize foreign assistance in the field of technical education,” said Minister Poudel.
During the meeting, Ambassador Kepler urged the Ministry of Education to create the necessary investment environment for technical and business projects. She said, ‘In our country, 80 per cent of the students are in technical and vocational education. They are directly focused on employment from there. We want the Ministry of Education to make laws accordingly.
The Swiss government has been assisting in the establishment of technical schools in Jiri and Balaju, training for trainers in technical and vocational education, employment fund projects, technical assistance for vocational education and training enhancement projects, scholarships and higher education.
