I don’t see a future of this system: Rajesh Ahiraj

Interview

By Our Reporter

In a brief encounter with this Weekly, Rajesh Ahiraj, who represents the Tarai community and also done Ph. D. on Tarai issue, has remarked that he doesn’t see the future of the present political system that Nepal has adopted.

Ahiraj has remarked that a system which is not pro-public, a system which identifies the citizens only as of the voters and taxpayers, cannot last for a long.

When asked about what could be the alternative to this system, Ahiraj explained that the level of frustration among the people is increasing day by day and they will revolt soon.

“Such a revolution may invite either a civil war or a civil-military rule or other else”, Ahiraj explained.

“The third option could be a crown-republic,” he said and explained that due to the failure of the present system, the monarchy is becoming popular, thus far, there is the possibility of restoration of the institution of monarchy.

“In my analysis, a sustainable system could be a crown-republic, where, all the actors could be adjusted,” he remarked.

“With the provision of looking after the country’s security, defence and culture by the monarch and then rest of the portfolios being looked after by the elected prime minister could be a sustainable and lasting democracy which could lead the nation towards prosperity”, Ahiraj has analysed.

Ahiraj has questioned that for whose benefit the federalism was introduced in Nepal! Nepal doesn’t need such federalism which is intended to create division among the Nepalis.

The solution of the present mess in the country could be either end of the federal structure or introducing only three provinces linking with India in the south and China in the north, Ahiraj has opined.

Also, there should be only two political parties in existence. Presently, there are more than 200 political parties, which is worthless, he said.

Talking about the political system, he said, “Nepal needs a system where education, health and justice should be free for every citizen”.

“Nepal like country cannot sustain by annoying her two giant neighbours,” he said and explained that both the neighbours India and China are not satisfied from such a mess in the country.

He said that both neighbours want peace in Nepal. If Nepal will enter in a civil war, it will be a serious security threat for both the countries. Therefore, they want peace in Nepal.

Talking about the performance of the present government, Ahiraj said that it has failed to deliver. Due to the non-cooperation performed by the leaders in the ruling party, the government has failed to show its performance.

Citing on the prolonged dispute in the ruling Nepal Communist Party, Ahiraj analysed that this is a cry of those leaders who are bargaining for more share in power.

Those leaders who have already enjoyed the executive post of a prime minister had failed to show their performance during their tenure. If Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will exhibit better performance, they will be identified as the failed leader. Therefore, they have performed non-cooperation to their own party’s government, he said.

He has remarked that Oli has tried to curb corruption and nepotism but those leaders in the anti-Oli camp are encouraging corruption and nepotism. “I have not seen any relatives of Oli in position but look at Prachanda, he has rewarded all his relatives,” Ahiraj has claimed.

“Those who are talking about rule of law, are violating the law,” he said.

The present system has established the assumption of “by the leader, for the leader and of the leader”, he remarked.

“In Nepal, a ‘leader’ didn’t get birth but the ‘dealers’ have got birth,” he said.

“Always, Nepalis have been deceived from the leaders in the name of revolution, either it is a Madhesh revolution or it is a bloody “people’s war”, he said.

Finally, he warned that one day, those leaders having a criminal base and violating human rights will be punished.
