Defining expansionism

By BABBLER
Indian prime minister Narendra Modi made a sudden visit to Ladakh, the Line of Actual Control in Sino-Indian disputed territory, where Indian and Chinese military clashed recently. Addressing the Indian military personnel deployed there, Modi said that the era of expansionism has ended. He was portraying China as an expansionist nation. To note, China is a country bordered with 14 countries, still, except from a few countries including India, China has no bilateral border dispute with her neighbours. Talking about Nepal bordered by India and China, there is no border dispute between Nepal and China but there is border dispute in 71 places in 24 districts bordered by India. Let’s compare which nation believes in expansionism!
Those outdated and tested fellows
The Nepal Communist Party, ruling party with virtually two-thirds majority, is engaged in serious dispute after Madhav-Nepal-Pushpakamal Dahal front demanded resignation of KP Sharma Oli from both the posts – party chairman and prime minister. The demand has come at a time when the nation is facing a bunch of crises due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The demand has surfaced at a time when the constitution has been amended by incorporating Kalapani-Limpiyadhura, Nepali territory.
PM Oli believes that after the government amended the constitution from the parliament, Indians have provoked specially Madhav Nepal and Pushpakamal Dahal to oust Oli from the party and the government as well.
General public are less bothered about the quarrel in the party. If Oli is ousted, Nepal or Dahal may become the next PM. We have experienced KP Oli’s rule. Not an oddity, we have also witnessed Madhav Nepal as the PM and also Dahal as the PM. They all are failed leaders as they could do nothing special during their tenure. If any new face is ready to become the PM from the next generation, we could have some hope but we don’t have any hope with those already tested leaders!
When nation becomes hostage of Oli
When Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli saw conspiracy was going to be hatched against his government, his cabinet suddenly decided to recommend the President to end the ongoing parliament session.
The President, without any delay, and even without informing the speaker and the chairman of the National Assembly, ended the parliament session.
Around 51 bills related to the law of the nation are under consideration of the parliament. More serious is that due to the negligence of the political leaders for more than two years, the parliament has not been able to endorse the citizenship amendment bill, from which, many of the youths are unable to obtain Nepali citizenship certificate and they are unable to go abroad for study and other business as they didn’t get a passport. It was expected that this time, the citizenship amendment bill will be adopted by the parliament that too remained impending. The MPs are enjoying the taxpayer’s money but they have become workless after the end of the parliament session. Say, the entire nation has become hostage from PM Oli’s decision.
