Kathmandu, September 17: Transport services along the Prithvi Highway have resumed from this morning after an 18-day disruption. Traffic had been affected after a flood washed away part of the road at Krishnabhir on Bhadau 14.
Two-way traffic has resumed after a new track was opened at Krishnabhir, where the Prithvi Highway had been blocked following the collapse of the road. The road had completely caved in after the Trishuli River washed away its lower section.
After the highway was completely blocked, a new track was opened from Bhadau 18 by cutting through a nearby hillside. Dhiraj Dhakal, an engineer with the Nagdhunga–Muglin Road Project (Western Section), said all the work was completed by Wednesday evening and the road was brought back into operation from today.
Around 100 metres of the road had been damaged by river erosion, disrupting traffic. The road was reopened within a short period after the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport mobilised manpower, equipment and other resources to construct the new track and restore the road. Vehicles that had been stranded on the road for the past two days were allowed to pass in the evening, while regular traffic resumed from today.
Following the resumption of traffic at Krishnabhir, vehicles have also been allowed to operate from today along the Tuiin Khola section of the Narayangadh–Muglin road, where traffic had been partially restricted.
Around 14,000 vehicles travel along this highway every day.
