Voter rolls will be updated using personal event registration system

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission will update and verify voter registration details using information obtained from the Department of National ID and Civil Registration.

The process will move ahead under an agreement between the commission and the department to use records held in the Personal Event Registration and Social Security Management Information System to update the voter roll.

According to Election Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, the department will provide the commission with personal event registration records stored in its system through secure technical channels.

The two agencies signed a memorandum of understanding on October 29 to make the voter roll update process easier, more systematic and effective.

The agreement provides for the development of the technical systems required for the secure exchange and use of data while ensuring data security and privacy.

A joint technical working group comprising representatives from both agencies will also be formed to address technical issues that may arise during implementation.

The collaboration is expected to make the updating and verification of voter registration details more systematic, reliable and effective through the use of records held in the personal event registration and social security management information system.
