PM, ministers make their property details public

Seventeen months after assuming the office, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal made his property details public on Monday.

Against the practice of making the property details within a month after assuming office, PM Dahal and Deputy Prime Minister Narayankaji Shrestha took 17 months to make their property details public.

Along with Dahal and Shrestha, twenty other ministers also made their property details public. The government has uploaded the details of 22 of the 23 ministers of the Dahal-led cabinet. State Minister for Health and Population Hasina Khan has not disclosed her property details.

According to the property details made public on Tuesday, Prime Minister Prachanda possesses a house with a parking area spanning 14 katthas in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-14, Chitwan. This property, registered in the name of his wife late Sita Dahal, is identified as ancestral land.

Additionally, he has one kattha of land in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-12, also registered in his late wife Sita Dahal’s name.  Likewise, the PM has five tolas of gold and a cash balance of Rs. 2.5 million in Everest Bank.

Likewise, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Shrestha has Rs. 122,918 in the bank account and a vehicle provided by party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

He has more than 37 ropanis of ancestral land in Siranchok Rural Municipality-8 of Gorkha, which he will transfer to the party as per the decision made in 2001.

Of the 22 ministers, Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Raghhubir Mahaseth, Labour, Employment and Social Security Minister Dol Prasad Aryal, and Urban Development Minister Dhan Bahadur Budha look rich.

Mahaseth has two houses in Janakpur Sub-Metropolitan City and Lalitpur Metropolitan City, one bighaha and 15 kattha land in Janakpur Sub-Metropolis-14 in Dhanusha and cash Rs. 22.5 million in his bank account.

Similarly, Minister Arayal has 150 tolas of gold and land worth Rs. 500 million in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lamjung.

Minister Budha has also 150 tola of gold and six houses in Kathmandu.

Similarly, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Rabi Lamichhane owns one ropani and one ana (over 342.25 sq ft) of land in Bhaktapur as his ancestral property.

Lamichhane has Rs. 100,000 in his two bank accounts. However, Lamichhane has not disclosed the value of the land in Bhaktapur.

He has Rs. 5,000 in Global IME Bank’s Panipokhari branch Rs. 105,000 in Nepal Bank Limited, Nayabazaar Branch.

All other movable assets are registered under the name of Lamichhane’s spouse, Nikita Paudel.

She owns 10 ropanis of land as ancestral property given by her parents after marriage. Home Minister Lamichhane has 80 tolas of gold and 15 to 20 kg of silver. DPM Lamichhane has a cash amount of Rs. 110,000 in his two bank accounts and Rs. 558,511 in his wife’s account.
