The Indo-West forces active in Nepal are poking China for its active presence in Nepal. Just to test the Chinese mood, India has wished to construct a Buddhist college in a restricted village in Mustang District. The Falyak area in Mustang is known as a sensitive place as four decades ago the Tibetan Khampa conducted an armed revolt against China from there. The Nepal government has declared it a restricted zone. Choosing the very sensitive place, the Indian Embassy has asked permission from the Nepal government to construct a college under the Embassy’s grant support worth 7 hundred 3 million three hundred thousand rupees assisting the Tibetan refugees settled there.
Nepal government spokesman and Minister, Rekha Sharma, however, said that the government will not allow the construction of a Buddhist college there, in fact, the Indo-West joint initiative is for poking China. To recall, the previous Nepali Congress government led by Sher Bahadur Deuba had sent a team of experts in the government to inspect the Nepal-China border pillars after its lawmaker of Karnali Province Jeevan Bahadur Shahi alleged China for encroaching on Nepal’s territory in Humla district. Different sources, including the Foreign Ministry of Nepal, had confirmed that the border pillars were intact and there was no encroachment by the Chinese side, even though, the then Home Ministry under Balkrishna Khand had sent a survey team. Later, the then-home minister Khand received the report but didn’t make it public. The Nepali Congress leaders, to suppress the issues of encroachment of the border by India in different districts, have attempted to create false propaganda that China has also encroached on Nepal’s territory. We all know, the NC efforts are intended for pleasing their bosses in Delhi.
K.P. Sharma Oli, UML chair, addressing a party gathering said that his party doesn’t accept the construction of a Buddhist university in the sensitive area, identified as a lonely place having no settlement. Oli also said that the construction of the Buddhist university is for other purposes – for conducting anti-China activities. When Oli, who has become the leader of the opposition party in Parliament, spoke about the Indian construction project, the government was compelled to speak on this controversial plan. We are all aware that India can never construct such a controversial project only with the Nepal government’s consent and without receiving Chinese approval. Be that as it may, this is an attempt for irritating China and also an open invitation for China to demonstrate its strong presence in Nepal. Already, due to the irresponsible attitude of the government leaders, Nepal’s foreign policy has fallen into a vulnerable stage converting the country into a playground of India and the West, their activities have compelled China for its presence in Nepal making the situation more complicated.
