Soon the national will be observing Falgun 7, or National Democracy Day commemorating that memorable moment in February 1951 when the feudal, 104-years old Rana autocracy came to an end.
Given the peculiar circumstances in which the more than century-old edifice of despotic family rule finally collapsed, it is natural for us to recall that unique combination of King and People that finally toppled the Rana regime thereby ushering in a new dawn of hope and freedom for all.
Since then there have, of course, been many ups and downs in the nation’s history, including periods when the country experimented with both a multi-party and a party less polity.
