Former King Gyanendra Shah has donated Rs 20 million to the relief fund for victims of the Rasuwa floods through the Himani Trust.
According to social media posts by various individuals, the former King made the contribution to support the government’s rescue operations and relief efforts for flood victims.
Accordingly, the Himani Trust has handed over relief materials, including food, to government authorities for distribution among displaced flood victims.
The Trust has also requested the authorities to allow it to distribute relief materials, including food, directly to the affected people.
Furthermore, Raji Rana, a close relative of the former Royal Family, has donated Rs 10.9 million to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund. This is one of the largest contributions made by an individual to the fund.
Rana, wife of the late Prabhu Shumsher Rana, made the donation through the Prabhu-Raji Foundation to provide immediate relief to victims of the Rasuwa floods.
Employees working at Rana’s office also contributed Rs 80,000 from their personal funds to the Relief Fund.
Rana is also preparing to provide relief supplies worth an additional Rs 2.5 million, including foodstuffs, cooking utensils and LPG cylinders. She has pledged to provide assistance of an equivalent value at locations where it is most needed, in coordination with the Ministries of Finance and Home Affairs.
Similarly, Surya Nepal Limited, in which the former King holds a major portion of share, has donated Rs 150 million to the relief fund.
Sripadi Power Company and Bhotekoshi Power Company have also contributed Rs 50.1 million towards rescue and relief operations for victims of the August 26 floods.
