After the “unanimous” election of Lokendra Bahadur Chand, former Prime Minister, as parliamentary leader of the Rastrya Prajatantra Party (RPP), the rift between the rival functions led by party chairman Surya Bahadur Thapa and leader Chand has taken a worse turn but the party is not likely to split soon. The RPP with 20 MPs came up as a third force in the parliament after recently held mid tern polls. Unification between RPP (Thapa) and RPP Chand is one of the most important factors for improved performance in the parliament, despite their unpopularity during the people’s movement 1990.
