NC central office suffers Rs 100 million damage; 36 central leaders’ homes torched

Kathmandu, Sept 22: The arson attack on September 9 caused damage worth Rs 100 million to the Nepali Congress (NC) central office.

Party publicity chief Min Bishwakarma said the fire at the central office alone caused losses worth Rs 100 million. He added that the homes of 36 central leaders were also vandalized and set ablaze.

“On the second day of the Gen Z protests, various groups attacked and torched our central office. Our preliminary estimate puts the damage at Rs 100 million. Engineers are still assessing the losses, and the figure could rise further,” Bishwakarma said. “Residences of 36 central leaders, including party president Sher Bahadur Deuba, were damaged.”

He said 48 party office buildings across the country were set on fire. Altogether, 132 leaders’ homes were targeted.

Among those attacked were Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha, Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka’s home in Surkhet, General Secretary Gagan Thapa’s house in Ratopul, Kathmandu, Bishwo Prakash Sharma’s residence in Jhapa and his rented flat in Lalitpur. Party treasurer Umesh Shrestha’s house in Chitwan was also torched, as was Deputy General Secretary Mahendra Yadav’s home in Dhanusha.

Former office-bearers’ houses were also attacked, including those of Shashank Koirala, Arjun Narsingh KC, Prakash Man Singh, Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat, Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat, Gopal Man Shrestha, Bimalendra Nidhi, and Krishna Prasad Sitaula.

Bishwakarma said the Koirala residence in Morang and the ashram named after Krishna Prasad Bhattarai in Bhandegaun, Lalitpur, were also set ablaze.
