Nepal has not stepped back from Lipulekh: Spokesperson Gurung

Pokhara, Aug 22: Minister for Communication and Information Technology and government spokesperson Prithvi Subba Gurung has said Lipulekh is Nepal’s territory. He clarified that the government has not backed away from its claim over the area.

Speaking at a press meet organized by Press Chautari Kaski in Pokhara, Gurung said India has been using Nepal’s land. He stressed that the matter should be resolved through diplomatic means.

Pointing out that Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura, and Kalapani belong to Nepal and that there is sufficient evidence to prove it, Gurung said, “No corridor or road should be built in the name of trade between the two countries. The issue has reached the diplomatic stage. Now, the solution must come through dialogue. Fighting for it is not something we have ever imagined.”

He added that creating a trade corridor inside Nepal’s restricted territory is a matter of serious concern for the country.

The spokesperson noted that the controversy resurfaced after India and China agreed to resume trade through the Lipulekh Pass. He said it would be appropriate for Nepal’s Foreign Ministry to issue a diplomatic note on the matter.
