Finally Deuba responds to Gagan Thapa

Kathmandu, February 20: When Gagan Thapa, general secretary, prepared a report to be presented at the Mahasamiti meeting, stating that the Nepali Congress Party should contest the general elections alone as the party is losing popularity by developing alliances with other parties, party president Deuba was upset.

Deuba tried to convince Thapa to remove the sentence “contesting election alone” from the report, but Thapa didn’t agree with Deuba.

Deuba, in his inaugural address to the Mahasamiti meeting that kicked off on Monday in Godawari, Lalitpur, countered Thapa’s remark that an election alliance is obvious as under the present political system, one single party cannot bag a majority.

However, at a meeting at Budhanilkantha, the residence of Deuba, that took place on Monday night, both Deuba and Thapa developed an understanding for accepting the argument for contesting elections alone, reports state.

However, the Deuba side has not confirmed the report.
