Kathmandu, February 19: The discussion between Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has been inconclusive due to the lack of agreement on the issue of election alliances with other political parties.
The discussion held at Deuba’s residence, Budhanilkanth on Monday before the start of the Mahasamiti meeting has ended inconclusive due to the lack of agreement between President Deuba and General Minister Thapa on the issue of the alliance in the upcoming elections.
After General Secretary Thapa prepared a report stating that there would be no alliance in the elections, Deuba asked him to correct it. However, after General Secretary Thapa rejected the request of President Deuba, the talks ended inconclusive.
Deuba asked Thapa to remove the word that there would be no alliance before the election from the organizational report. However, Thapa has maintained his stance of not removing it. Because of this, the talks since last Saturday are becoming inconclusive.
Later, Deuba, countering the upcoming report being presented by Thapa, in his inaugural address today, said that under the present political system, there is no possibility of a single-party majority, there is the compulsion to forge election alliances with other parties.
NC senior leader Sekhar Koirala questioned how long the NC to become the tail of the Maoists.
Koirala said that the minimum seven precent popularity of the NC has declined due to the alliance with the Maoists.
A large section of the NC cadres are against the present alliance with the Maoists.
