Kathmandu, February 9: Bamdev Gautam, a member of the National Assembly, said that none of the governments formed after the promulgation of the present constitution paid attention to improving the national economy.
Gautam, addressing the National Assembly, said that there is a need to strengthen the national economy to make prosperous the nation.
“Currently Nepal’s economy is in a weak state, but it can be improved”, he said.
“It is necessary for everyone to think about how to make the country prosperous. Not only this government, none of the governments formed after the promulgation of the new constitution tried to reform it” Gautam remarked.
MP and leader Gautam said, “The money received from foreign employment is the blood and sweat of the people, it is also the property of the Nepalese government. Last year around 22 billion rupees were received as remittance revenue, which is higher this year. The government should keep it in Nepal Rastra Bank or any other bank with at least 10 percent interest and give it to them when they come home. If the government can spend this amount on the development of the country, the country will move towards self-sufficiency.
Gautam commented that although there is a provision in the constitution on what kind of society to build through the system of multi-party competition, the government and political parties have not paid attention to its effective implementation.
He claimed that the Prime Minister so far has not even presented the framework that socialism can be established in the country through multi-party competition.
