The recently concluded Maoist Center central committee meeting though did not seek an alternative to party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal in the party, it revealed how Dahal has been losing his grip in the party.
Dahal, who has been leading the CPN (Maoist Centre) with his firm fist right from its formation in the late eighties, drew criticism from the party leaders in the recent central committee meeting, hinting that Dahal will have a tough time ahead in retaining control over the party.
During the five-day meeting of the central committee that ended on Sunday, the Prime Minister came under a barrage of criticism with some members raising accusations of corruption and nepotism. Central committee members Om Sharma and Laxman Panta reportedly raised questions regarding the appointment of Ganga Dahal, daughter of PM Dahal, as his aide.
Another member even demanded an investigation into the property of Dahal and senior leaders who have occupied posts in the government during the past 18 years after the Maoists joined the peace process and mainstream politics. “There is neo-feudalism being patronised by our leaders,” the member was quoted as saying.
Leader Janardan Sharma and others also criticised Dahal. They accused the leadership of making the party unpopular among people by resorting to corruption and other misdeeds.
