The ruling Nepali Congress party is in a holy mess following the dramatic announcement by Ganesh Man Singh on September 16 that he was quitting the party.
Though efforts continue to bring Singh, once known as the supreme leader of the Nepali Congress, back into the fold, especially now that the country is on the threshold of uncertain parliamentary elections, it would appear that Singh has indeed crossed the Rubicon.
Such a perception has been created in the public mind since the terms spelt out by the 79-year-old political leader for staying on in the nearly fifty-year-old party are that all seventy-five district committees of the party must be suitably reorganized and that Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala must quit office.
There are, meanwhile, reports that both party President Krishna Prasad Bhattarai and the Indian Ambassador Prof. Bimal Prasad have also called on Singh to request the ageing leader to reconsider his harsh decision.
