Who will check this expansionism?

The Deuba government has declared that it will submit the integrated Mahakali development project agreement signed between Nepal and India for ratification by a two-thirds majority in the current session of parliament. This, it claims, will be achieved through the support of the main Opposition party.

However, this task is not easy. The Mahakali River accord has many flows derogatory and damaging to the national interest. Sharing of waters is hopelessly imbalanced in favour of India. And as the credibility of HMG is rapidly going, to allure foreign investors to a huge hydroelectric project like the Mahakali is not handy for Nepal.

Apart from these handicaps ratification of the Mahakali Treaty will further defunct and destroy Nepalese sovereignty. Parties in government and the Opposition will be exposed to the hilt as a mere surrogate children of Indian expansionism.
