Kathmandu, September 1: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) spokesperson Jagadish Kharel said that an agreement had been reached to form all-party mechanisms from the provincial to the local level in the flood- and landslide-affected districts and mobilize them for search, rescue and relief operations.
Briefing reporters on the agreement reached at an all-party meeting held on Tuesday, he said that all political parties would coordinate and work together to tackle the disaster.
Kharel claimed that a loose network had been formed at the initiative of RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane. He said opposition parties had also offered important suggestions at the meeting and expressed confidence that the government would move forward accordingly.
“We have agreed to move ahead by holding all-party meetings and forming mechanisms in the flood-affected districts. Such mechanisms will extend down to the provincial and local levels, and work will be carried out in coordination with everyone,” Kharel said.
Kharel said search, rescue and relief operations were currently being carried out at a rapid pace, adding that a strong political mechanism would also be needed in the coming days for reconstruction and disaster management. He said the floods and landslides this time had caused even greater damage than the earthquake, and that the political parties had reached a common understanding on the long-term solution and management of the disaster.
