
Bhaktapur, Sept 11: Sixty LPG cylinders have been seized from a party palace in Bhaktapur and distributed to the public, while two people have been arrested on charges of black-marketing of cooking gas.
A monitoring team led by Chief District Officer Binod Kumar Khadka seized the cylinders from Madhyapur Banquet in Madhyapur Thimi on Thursday evening. The cylinders were later distributed to people in need.
The banquet operator said he had brought the cylinders from Chitwan because many banquets were expected to be held at the venue during the festival season in September-October. He said he had brought the gas only on Thursday and distributed it to people in need at the administration’s request.
Meanwhile, police arrested 41-year-old Rajesh Karmacharya of Itachhe, Bhaktapur Municipality 2, with 14 Sagar Gas cylinders on charges of black marketing.
Police also arrested 25-year-old Umesh Sah, operator of Sarlahi General Store in Brahmanagar, Suryabinayak Municipality 3. Sah, a resident of Barhathwa Municipality 7, Sarlahi, was arrested after police received information that he had been selling LPG cylinders for Rs 2,800 each.
Police said they seized 75 Himal Gas cylinders from his shop.
