Nuwakot, Sept 11: Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maoming has said China will continue to support Nepal’s recovery from the damage caused by the flood that flowed from the Bhotekoshi into the Trishuli River.
Visiting Nuwakot on Wednesday to assess the flood damage and the condition of affected residents, Ambassador Maoming said China was providing relief to ease the difficult situation following the disaster and would provide further assistance for recovery.
He said the Chinese government had already supported search and rescue operations, relief distribution and the operation of holding centres and had provided an additional US$2 million to the Nepal government.
“China is deeply saddened by the heavy loss of lives and property caused by the flood in Nepal,” he said. “China will continue to provide the necessary support to the Nepal government to restore schools, roads, homes and other physical infrastructure damaged by the flood.”
Ambassador Maoming held discussions with officials of the district disaster management committee to assess the extent of the damage.
He then visited several flood-affected areas in Ward Nos. 1 and 10 of Bidur Municipality and inspected the holding centre operating at the covered hall in Ward No. 2.
At the holding centre, he interacted with flood-affected residents from Rasuwa and Nuwakot who are taking shelter there. He asked about their living conditions, food, health and their immediate needs and expectations.
