Nepal–India Joint Working Group meeting on Border Management held in Dehradun, India

Kathmandu, August 21: Nepal and India have agreed to enhance security surveillance at sensitive points along their border by using modern technology. The agreement was reached at a meeting of the Nepal–India Joint Working Group on Border Management held in Dehradun, India, on Friday.

Regarding the decisions of the 14th meeting of the working group, the Ministry of Home Affairs said, “Both sides agreed to enhance security surveillance at sensitive locations in the border areas through the use of modern and latest technologies, including CCTV cameras and other advanced equipment.”

The meeting of the working group, which began on Thursday, also discussed issues including encroachment on the no-man’s-land area, and the full operation and utilization of Integrated Check Posts (ICPs).

“The meeting held intensive discussions on important aspects of border management, including controlling encroachment and unauthorized use of the no-man’s-land area, the full operation and utilization of Integrated Check Posts, and mutual legal assistance,” the Ministry of Home Affairs said.

The meeting also discussed facilitating cross-border movement of citizens of both countries, facilitating and strengthening monitoring mechanisms for citizens of third countries travelling through the border points, disaster management, and making Nepal–India district-level coordination meetings more effective.

The meeting was led by Anand Kafle, Joint Secretary at Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs, from the Nepali side, and Pausumi Basu, Joint Secretary at India’s Ministry of Home Affairs, from the Indian side.

The 15th meeting of the working group will be held in Nepal on a mutually convenient date for both sides.
