Deuba faction vows to promote Sanatan Dharma as national identity

Kathmandu, Aug 17: The Deuba faction of the Nepali Congress has decided to promote Sanatan Dharma as a national identity.

The three-day gathering of the party’s establishment side, which began on August 14 and concluded on Monday, made five decisions.

On religion, the gathering stated: “Sanatan religious and cultural traditions that have existed in Nepal since ancient times are also part of our national identity.

While ensuring the country’s long-standing religious tolerance, social harmony and the freedom of every individual and religious community to practise their faith, we are committed to protecting the Hindu, Buddhist, Kirat and Prakrit religious traditions and promoting Sanatan Dharma as a national identity.”

The gathering was organised by the faction led by former Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba, which did not participate in the party’s special general convention held in December last year.
