Police arrest 17 gangsters in late night crackdown

Kathmandu, April 4. Police arrested 17 individuals involved in organized crime from multiple locations across the capital in a late-night crackdown.

Acting on an anti-gang operation, a team from the Valley Crime Investigation Office detained 13 suspects from Thamel, Durbar Marg, and Samakhusi, SSP Santosh Khadka said. Most of those arrested are linked to the so called “Kavreli group.”

Those detained include Sanji Lama of the Kavreli group, along with Ashok Giri of Sindhupalchok and Suresh Gurung, also known as “Kimjong.” Gurung is affiliated with the group led by Shyam Lama, who remains at large.

Separately, a team from the District Police Range Kathmandu arrested four more suspects.

According to SP Pawan Bhattarai, those arrested include Prabin Tamang “Dimpal,” Birju Maharjan, Sujan Karki, and Saru Humagain. Police said Tamang has been active in gang operations in the Boudha area as part of the Shyam Lama group.

Maharjan has been operating in Kalanki and Bafal, while Karki and Humagain were active in Kalanki and Syuchatar, respectively, according to police.
