Lamichhane’s directive: Don’t run media trials for ministerial posts

Kathmandu, March 18: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chair Rabi Lamichhane has said no decision has yet been made on who will be sent to the Cabinet.

Speaking at the closing session of a two-day orientation program for the party’s lawmakers on Wednesday, Lamichhane made this clear.

“Among you here, some will eventually take charge of ministries. But please, stop asking to be made ministers or running media trials claiming ‘I will be this minister,’” Lamichhane said. “Because, as of now, nothing is decided. Even at this moment, we have not decided who the party will send to the Cabinet.”

He added that the party will make the right choices and that no one needs to lobby for ministerial positions. “We know your expertise and capacity. The party will consider both visible and less visible members,” he said.

Lamichhane also said he remains committed to the democratic system. “I believe in democracy. I am committed to the current system and the Constitution,” he said. “We think some improvements are needed in the governing system over time.” He stressed that his commitment to the current system, political change, and the Constitution has not wavered and will not waver in the future.

He reiterated that the party stands firmly by the Constitution, while also holding that some reforms in the governance system are necessary. He urged party lawmakers to remain equally committed.

Lamichhane also said the contributions of past leaders to the country should not be ignored.
