Looted weapons recovered from parked taxi

Kathmandu, Sept 23: Weapons recovered from a taxi on Monday at a car wash center parking lot have been identified as belonging to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office.

Police arrested Hira Bahadur Magar of Tarkeshwar Municipality-5, Lolang, along with seven pistols and 33 rounds of ammunition. The search was carried out after receiving information that weapons were stored in a taxi parked at the site.

The recovered items included seven pistols, six magazines, 33 SLR rounds, and a handset battery. Hira Bahadur admitted during questioning that these weapons had been looted from the Valley Traffic Police Office.

He said he took the weapons during the Gen Z protests on Bhadra 24 and hid them in his taxi. He told police he initially acted in anger, but later felt conflicted about what to do with them.

He said he had considered returning the weapons but feared legal action due to the delay. He admitted to stealing them directly from Baggi Khana and keeping them in his taxi.

During the Gen Z protests, demonstrators had set fire to and looted the Valley Traffic Police Office.
