Heavy rain likely from Tuesday but no need to panic, says meteorologist

Kathmandu, Oct 23: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has urged the public not to panic, saying some parts of the country could receive normal to heavy rainfall from next Tuesday.

Meteorologist Rajan Maharjan of the department’s Meteorological Forecasting Division issued the appeal in response to rumours circulating on social media. He said rainfall was possible in some areas, but there was no reason for alarm.

“Rainfall is possible from next Tuesday, but it is not yet certain where it will occur, how much rain there will be or how long it will last,” he said. “Reports circulating on social media claiming that it will rain for seven consecutive days have caused concern, particularly among farmers. Weather systems are changeable, so I urge everyone not to believe rumours or panic.”

According to Maharjan, weather forecasts in Nepal are generally more reliable for the next three days, but forecasts extending to a full week are less certain.

“We will issue information about the possibility of rainfall next week in the coming days. We urge everyone to rely only on official updates from the department on weather conditions and rainfall,” he said.
