Survivors of the earthquake of November 3 in Rukum West and Jajarkot have been finding it difficult to live in the chill winter as they failed to get relief support to make temporary housing and buy warm clothes.
About three dozen quake survivors living under tarpaulins have already died of cold-induced illness as the government could not provide funds to build temporary shelters in time.
The majority of the deaths are reported from Jajarkot, the epicentre of the November 3 earthquake measuring 6.4 magnitude on the Richter scale, while five succumbed to the cold in Rukum West.
The rising cold is likely to claim more lives if authorities do not step up efforts to avoid such preventable deaths.
The earthquake claimed 154 lives in Jajarkot and Rukum West with 101 killed in Jajarkot. Many survivors are now sheltering under tarpaulins, braving the winter chill.
